Using a cleverly designed combination of dampening strut and torsion spring, the Tailgate Assist safely controls the opening speed and reduces the closing effort by over 50% offering simple, one-handed operation.

The Toyota Hilux has a reputation for being tough and durable – built to last, and that’s exactly how the ARB Tailgate Assist has been designed! It’s not often spoken about ÔÇÿproduct development hours’, but they are what sets ARB apart from the competition and allow us to reassure our customers they are buying the best – tried and proven to last.

Tested to over 40,000 cycles (based on OE specifications) which to the average consumer, equates to around 20 years of service life!

Unlike majority of the ARB Tailgate Assist range that utilise a combination of dampening and spring assist struts, the Tailgate Assist kit to suit the SR & SR5 Hilux models uses a dampening strut to control the opening, whilst closing assistance is achieved using a torsion spring. The torsion spring runs across the lower edge of the vehicle tailgate which overcomes the issue of having very limited space between the tailgate edge and ute body where an assist strut would normally be mounted. The factory tailgate limit straps are replaced with cables to allow sufficient clearance of moving parts with additional anti-wear pads included to avoid paint rub.

The unique ball socket design of the dampening strut mounts play an integral role in achieving such long service life as they allow for natural occurring misalignment of the moving parts which would otherwise be compromised when using less forgiving style mounts (often found in competitive products). It’s design features such as these that sets ARB apart from the competition.
