ARB SkyDome Swag

ARB SkyDome Swag

The humble swag has been staple in the Australian bush since the late 1800s. In fact the swag has been immortalised in the Banjo Patterson poem Waltzing Matilda and in history. Today the swag is a versatile and popular choice of overnight accommodation for 4WDers. From a basic canvas bedroll cover, the shape has progressed from a tapered swag into tapered dome swag.

The evolution continues with a unique swag shape from ARB to give you comfort in a spacious environment – we introduce you to the newest product in our Touring range, the “ARB SkyDome” swags.

DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT:
The challenge with this product was to design a swag that suits the needs of our market. Having a 4WD allows people of all shapes and sizes to experience this great country, so we made a swag that is conducive to their needs:
• Spacious
• Comfortable
• Freestanding
• Suitable for various weather conditions
• Packed full of features

SPACE:
SkyDome is very generous in length, width and height. The industry leading height from head to hip gives you plenty of space without feeling confined under the canvas. The extra height takes away that claustrophobic feeling and allows you to relax, bend your knees and enjoy reading that bedtime novel. The SkyDome single swag is 2100mm L x 900mm W x 850mm H, with an internal volume of a massive 1200 litres. The SkyDome double swag is 2100mm L x 1400mm W x 800mm H with an internal volume of 1800 litres.

COMFORT:
The size and shape of the SkyDome is the basis of the comfort level, whilst the large mesh area enables fantastic ventilation to reduce internal condensation. On the single swag, the large canvas door can be opened past the centre point, revealing night sky vision, and the doors on the double swag both meet in the middle providing uninterrupted vision from the dual occupancy sleeping position. A low side entry door makes it easier to enter and exit the swag and put on your boots while sitting in the swag. The mattress is made from 75mm thick high density convoluted foam with anti-microbial additives to reduce allergies. The breathable and non-rustling mattress cover can be easily removed (zipper) and is machine washable.

FREESTANDING:
The freestanding design allows you to select the best place to roll out your swag on a flat piece of real estate away from potential falling branches or on surfaces where guy rope deployment and tethering is difficult. This includes indoors, under verandas, on sand, rock or even man made surfaces such as concrete or bitumen. A series of bows and rods made from non-corrosive 11mm anodised aluminium provide the structure of the SkyDome. On the double swag the body rod is centralised, yet the single swag allows you to select a central position or offset side position for improved vision of the night sky.

CLIMATE:
The SkyDome is strategically designed to accommodate differing weather patterns. For hot climates, the canvas door(s) and external head and foot awnings can be rolled up and secured on the toggles to reveal the midge/mosquito mesh for improved air circulation. Alternatively, they can be deployed and secured horizontally to provide shade from the sun. The light sandstone colour was chosen to help reflect the heat. For wet conditions the SkyDome is unique. Featuring a heavy duty 820 gsm PVC base with PVC welded seams, it is fully waterproof. The PVC base extends 75mm (same height as the mattress) up the side of the swag to prevent water seepage from puddles or during light flooding. The specified heavy duty canvas is water and rot proofed to Australian Standards and the core spun wax thread will swell to prevent water seeping through the stitching. If the wind picks up, you can shut each awning independently and still keep some ventilation open. However if a dust storm approaches, the additional internal storm flaps can be zipped up to prevent dust ingress.

SHOOTERS WINDOW:
Commonly referred to as a shooters window, the head window incorporates a full double slider zipped mesh panel so that it can be lowered to allow access through the end of the swag.

HAT HOLDER:
Many 4WDers wear an Akubra wide brim hat, and to prevent the hat from being squashed we have incorporated a clever hat holder on the underside of the head awning – accessible from the shooters window.

POCKETS:
Inside the swag there are 4 generous pockets to house your belongings, positioned to the sides of the shooters window at the head end.

KEY & TORCH HOLDERS:
Included above the shooters window are two hooks and a velcro strap to conveniently hold a range of torches, camp lights or keys.

YKK ZIPPERS:
Keeping a high level of component specification, the zippers are the world renowned YKK brand and feature dual sliders to position the opening wherever you want.

RAIN GUTTER:
A sewn in rain gutter is placed beside the door zip to help direct any water that gets under the storm flap away from the zipper, ensuring water cannot seep through the zip.

HEAD & FOOT AWNINGS:
The head and foot awnings incorporate a solid rod to prevent flapping in the breeze and allow for single guy rope deployment. The supplied guy ropes include a reflective weave (from torchlight) to prevent tripping at night time.

STRAPS & BUCKLES:
Securing the swag when rolled are two 38mm ARB embroidered webbing straps with plastic buckles rated to 130kg and connected to a rubber grip carry handle.

ACCESSORY BAG:
8 pegs (5mm x 250mm long) are provided with every swag. Keeping your pegs, rods and bows together is a 2 pocket PVC accessory bag.

PACKAGING:
Creating an in-store presence, the SkyDome swags are pre-packaged in an impressive full colour carton with the swag features prominently visible for the “silent salesman” aspect in your showroom. Note: each swag carton is packed in a plain outer shipping carton to prevent damage during transport. This shipping carton must be removed prior to placing the product in your showroom. We believe the best way to experience this unique product is to have it on full display and let your customer lay in it. To prevent permanent creasing or memory of the foam mattress we do not vacuum pack our swags.

BOOT SWAG:
You may notice that the SkyDome does not incorporate a boot mat. This is omitted due to the nature of such mats getting dirty and possibly soiling the swag when rolled up. With the opportunity to provide a creative solution we introduce the first ever ARB BootSwag. This option is designed to be placed alongside the SkyDome swag, providing not only a mat, but also a sheltered enclosure for storage of footwear and other items. Not only is this a solution for swags, but also for rooftop tents where the BootSwag can be placed at the foot of the ladder. The large dome area will suit most boots and you can even place your hat on top of them. Access is via a zippered front flap. A large boot mat lets you position the BootSwag next to your swag for convenience. The base, and mat is the same PVC material as the swag base whilst the dome section is made from Oxford fabric as seen in the ARB rooftop tent.
